The Labyrinth
The cathedral of Chartres has an ancient labyrinth.
This labyrinth was undamaged and not altered
since the building of the cathedral in 1220AD.
This is completely unique!
The big question is: why is it there?
Why does it fascinate people to follow the labyrinth?
The inside of the Labyrinth has six circles.
The outside of the labyrinth has 114 circles.
On Fridays the chairs go aside and the labyrinth is visible and
usable.
Some people go barefeeted the way of the labyrinth.
Others have prayers prepared and do a prayer at every turn around
point.
Others do prayers at every 10 steps.
Some people walk the labyrinth way hastily,
because they think the labyrinth is a maze with dead en side ways.
There are no dead end side ways.
Why are the chairs placed over the labyrinth?
Protecting the labyrinth has kept the labyrinth in order the way it
is.
Millions of tourists walk through the cathedral every year.
The labyrinth would have been worn out by now.
The dolmen above which the cathedral has been built,
has to do with the vortex of life giving energy coming out of the
earth.
Rebirth and life giving energy.
So the labyrinth is the vortex of life made visible.
The procedure of the Labyrinth has to do with rebirth.
The ornament in the centre of the labyrinth is gone since
centuries,
apparently destroyed in the French revolution in 1773.
The vanished ornament in the middle was apparently
a reference to the Cretian labyrinth of the Taurus.
The entrance is orientated on the West.
The white corridors are forming the way
to follow.
Again the entrance of the labyrinth at
Chartres.
The cathedral of Amiens also has a
labyrinth.
Here people have to follow the black
lines as the way of the labyrinth.
The labyrinth is octogonal, which was
always a symbol of the Templars.
The cathedral of Amiens was financed by
the Templars too.
Susan following the labyrinth.
There are always numbers of people
following the labrytinth.
Some friendly parishoner of Amiens
worked 200 hours
on this map of the labyrinth.
Outside the cathedral of Orleans lies a
small copy
of the labyrinth of Chartres.
The entrance is oriented on the East,
which is not correct compared with
Chartres.
Still it is there and usable!
On all our visits of the cathedral of Chartres
the labyrinth got a lot attention in measurement and
vision.
The first conclusion is:
the labyrinth is the vortex of the cathedral made
visible.
The Gothic architecture has the purpose of generating
energy.
The high building brings in the vortex of the earth
energies.
In Chartres the vortex was already there because of
the dolmen under the cathedral.
Maybe this is the reason that the labyrinth could
survive the centuries.
The second conclusion is:
the labyrinth influences time.
Time is being slowed down.
The outside of the labyrinth has 114 gears or links.
The inside of the labyrinth has 6 gears or hinges.
This is a ratio of 19 times.
This could indicate that time is 19 times slowed down.
Meditating on the edge of the labyrinth feels as a
clock.
Time is ticking.
The windows all around the cathedral are magnificent.
Many of those windows were donated by local craftsmen
during the time the cathedral was being built.
Every window and part of a window is an object of art with a
message.
The roset windows are mandalas with a task on behalf of the
energies
in the gothic building.
The capturing of the vortex powers seems to emplified by these
rosetwindows.
There are a lot of these rosetwindows in the cathedral.
Estimate is 40 of those roset windows.
