Queens Day Page
in the Netherlands and Amsterdam
On April 30 everybody in the Netherlands has a day off,
because the birthday of Queen Beatrix
is celebrated with a big national street party.
This webpage wants to give an impression
of what is happening in The Netherlands
on that festive day.
Early in the morning many households
put out the flag with the Orange pennant.
Orange is the color of the Queen
and also her surname.
In many squares of the towns
a second hand market will be going on
with many kids selling old play toys.
Everywhere are kiosks in the streets
with food and drinks for sale.
On many places there will be music and dancing.
Little bands are in the streets with jazz music.
Many local communities will have games for kids
in the streets or on a square.
A real steam engine train.
A day of fun.
In the inner city of Amsterdam is the
biggest party going on
with often more then half a million people.
Street tournament of the local chess society.
At the end of the day in many places
there will be a big show of fireworks.
